![]() By the time Project kids reach their late teens, they are well-prepared for a challenge. They enter a two-year program that focuses on advanced acting of existing texts. Along the way the kids are assigned their own Shakespearean sonnet, which they memorize and present. Then they write a short play placing the sonnet into a theatrical context. The short plays, known as Sonnet Scenes, are performed before an invited audience. The program culminates in the second year with a production of a Shakespearean play. Past teen productions have included, TWELFTH NIGHT(June, 1997), A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (July 2000) and THE TEMPEST (July 2001). The productions have been performed in the town of Lorgues in the South of France, as well as in London and Debenham, England. The kids who have stuck with the Project through this final, glorious "senior trip" are rewarded with an experience they will never forget. | At Rise: | The king in his royal P.J.s is watching T.V. as the guards rush in and tell him theres been an attack. The king is watching an infomercial. | |
| GUARD (YELLING) | ||
| Sire, there's been an attack in the west of the kingdom. We must retaliate. |
| KING | ||
| Oh my God! |
| Picks up telephone and dials a number |
| Hello. Yes. I want to ask you does that fry maker come with the fries or without. Oh we have to buy our own. I see |
| GUARD | ||
| Sire |
| Clicks off the telephone |
| GUARD | ||
| We must do something. |
| KING | ||
| What happened? |
| GUARD | ||
| There's been an attack! The people in the neighboring country have bombarded the west of the kingdom. They are already dictating every person's move. They have no freedom anymore. They want our land. We have to do something! |
| The king continues to stare at the T.V. |
| GUARD | ||
| Sire its happening. King Michael will be at the palace in a few days. I don't want that. What are you going to do? |
| The princess walks in crying. |
| KING | ||
| Well first get out of my royal P.J.s then order this new fry maker that I tried to order before. |
| In infomercial mode |
| It slices and dices and only cost $19.99. It's amazing! |
| Winks. |
| PRINCESS | ||
| Father snap out of it! |
| Slaps the king three times. |
| There's a war out there that you could've prevented. |
| KING | ||
| Huh? What do you mean? |
| PRINCESS | ||
| Mothers are being separated from their children. People are getting hurt or dying as king Michael slowly makes his way through the kingdom. |
| KING | ||
| Oh no! |
| PRINCESS | ||
| Oh yes! And all this is happening while your sitting here watching infomercials about things that haven't even been invented yet. |
| KING | ||
| Oh my it's true! (Starts to perform for the guard.) It's all your fault. What have you done? |
| PRINCESS | ||
| What? |
| KING | ||
| You were the one that went out there everyday and told my precious people all those lies. It was you, not me. |
| PRINCESS | ||
| But I was... You told me ... You were the one... |
| KING | ||
| Yeah yeah yeah always making excuses even to your father, your own loving father. That's what hurts the most. |
| Pretends to cry. |
| GUARD | ||
| Stupid little girl look what you did to the king no wonder why the people don't trust you. Your own father cant trust you. |
| KING | ||
| Guard please leave me to my little brat I'll take care of her. |
| GUARD | ||
| Yes sire call me back in if I have to rough her up. |
| Sticks his tongue out at the Princess. Guard exits. |
| PRINCESS | ||
| Father please don't cry. I was just following what you told me to do. |
| Looks up with a clean face. No tears or anything. |
| KING | ||
| Daughter what am I going to do? |
| PRINCESS | ||
| Well since its all my fault maybe I should... |
| KING | ||
| Its not your fault. You warned me. You told me what would happen. I sat at the T.V. the whole time living my life through Greg Brady. I'm a joke. I should be hanged. How could I do this to the people I care about most. |
| PRINCESS | ||
| Father stop! You can run the kingdom. You've done it for more than 15 years and everyone loves you. You have to get back out there and get your kingdom back. |
| KING | ||
| No it's useless. I'm a horrible king. |
| PRINCESS | ||
| No more be grieved at that which thou hast done. Roses have thorns and silver fountains mud. Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun, And loathsome canker lives in sweetest bud. All men make faults, and even I in this, Authorizing thy trespass with compare. Myself corrupting salving thy amiss, Excusing thy sins more than their sins are; For to thy sensual fault I bring in sense, Thy adverse party is thy advocate, And ´gainst myself a lawful plea commence. Such civil war is in my love and hate, That I an accessory needs must be, To that sweet thief which sourly robs from me. |
